60+ Mental Health Hashtags to Amplify Your Impact in Instagram

mental health hashtags

Mental health hashtags are key to reaching more people who need you on Instagram. No—hashtags are not dead. Quite the contrary, data from 18 million Instagram accounts, analyzed by Later, shows that 18-20 hashtags significantly increase reach on social media posts.

If you want to expand your reach on Instagram (and grow your brand, business, or influence), you can’t ignore this key aspect of your content. This blog post is meant to give you a starting point—mental illness is so nuanced, with many disorders that your potential audience might be struggling with. Including ALL those specific hashtags would be difficult.

To find great hashtags beyond what’s listed here, look for ones that are:

  • Relevant to the content of the post

  • Has 500K or less posts (so you don’t get lost in the search feed!)

  • Relevant to your audience

  • Location-relevant for hyperlocal social media marketing (I.E. #mentalhealththerapynewyork)

I also have a list of 50+ eating disorder hashtags if you’re looking to reach more people in that space.

Mental Health Hashtags Above 500K

As I mentioned above, ideally, your hashtags have 500K posts or less. I recommend this because, when someone searches that hashtag, you want a chance of actually showing up in the search feed. If the post has millions of hashtags, you’re more likely to get lost in the noise; especially if you have low engagement or a small following.

However, during certain times of the year (like Mental Health Awareness Month), or given your specific focus, you may want to use a few of these key hashtags.

  • Mentalhealthrecovery

  • Mentalhealthawarenessmonth

  • Mentalhealthawareness

  • Mentalhealthtips

  • Mentalhealthisimportant

  • Anxietyawareness

  • Anxietysupport

  • anxietyhelp

Education, Community, and Resources

Many people come to social media to find resources and learn more about what they, or someone they know, are struggling with. As an expert in the field, you can provide that education. With the right mental health hashtags, those people will also find your content and get the information they need.

You can impact people professionally—but don’t underestimate the power of someone finding the support they need right when they need it.
